February 23 - 24, 2008         7 pm - 7 am

This night honours the relationship between Universal Consciousness and individualized ego, between God and our selves. We offer our praise and gratitude for God's ever-watchful care. Day after day, night after night he keeps the vigil, so, on this night, the darkest night of the last winter new moon, we vow to keep the vigil ourselves. Through our concentration and devotion, we support one another in this aim to allow the Lord one night of rest as we dissolve our minds into (the Divine) Pure Consciousness.

Babaji tells us that the aim of this night is dispassion-to remove the veils of our ego-created world, our attachments, aversions, and desires.

  • First we assume our Divine form by bathing and wearing fresh clothes in honour of our worship.

  • Then through our focus, we chant the names of Shiva, the Lord of the Yogis, the destroyer of ignorance, the giver of Peace

  • Through our prayers and puja (worship), we purify the subtle elements of the body and bring them to life.

  • Through our meditation, we sacrifice the tendency of the mind to go outward, to create its own world of illusion again and again.

  • Through kirtan, we create a spiritual atmosphere and breath pattern that calms and purifies the mind.

  • Through keeping vigil all night, we sacrifice bodily comfort and make a deep shift in our consciousness.

The presence of God, Pure Consciousness, Universal Truth, has been invoked and we are given the methods for attainment of their highest freedom from our mental bondage. Each of us is part of the whole, and, collectively we can create a most powerful environment towards the aim of Peace, real Peace beyond all limitations.
