Join the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga at our upcoming Summer Celebration event!

Schedule:

3:30 pm – Frisbee and Fun on the Mound
4:00 pm – Vegetarian Cooking Class with Devin
6:00 pm – Community Dinner
7:30 pm – Talent Show (bring your music, poetry, art, hobby, etc. or just your simple presence to share in a fun and lighthearted way)

Tickets:

$40 for the full event – tickets available online
By donation (on site) for just the Talent Show

Cooking Class Description:

Vegetarian cooking: The basics. This class will cover the fundamentals of cooking from a professional perspective: knife handling and use; cutting and processing techniques; building and balancing flavours; making salad dressings; food combining for complete protein. We will also find time to discuss other nutritional points such as sugar, oils and fats and how they relate to health.

Devin’s Bio:

Devin has been in and around the professional food service world for over 30 years. He started as a dishwasher in Grade 10 in 108 Mile Ranch, BC, where after three years he was a first cook and just beginning his Journeyman Apprenticeship program; which he subsequently finished in Vancouver at Vancouver Community College in 1997. Devin worked in several small and medium sized restaurants over the next two decades, mostly craft kitchens making their food from scratch with an eye on the modern trends while usually holding a place for tradition.

As Devin grew up with organic food and usually a garden, his love of fresh and seasonal ingredients has only grown with his knowledge of food and cooking techniques. He also has a passion for locally sourced ingredients, always with an eye to sustainability and what’s in season. Devin is enmeshed in vegetarian and vegan food now that he is running the kitchen here at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga. This has proven to be a challenge and invigorating for him, after years of working in a fully omnivorous environment.

Soon, Devin will be heading off to study Holistic Nutrition once his time at the Centre has come to it’s conclusion.
