Breath as the Gateway to Raja Yoga with Dr. Yogrishi Vishvketu & Kal Prakashini Ji

A Classical Yogic Immersion & Continuing Education Training

June 10–16, 2026

From the Banks of the Gaṅgā to the Ganges of the Gulf Islands

A Living Transmission of Yogic Practice

What if the depth of traditional yogic living could be experienced — without travelling to India?

This six-day immersion brings the living teachings of Yoga, as expressed through the Akhanda Yoga system and rooted in Himalayan traditions originating on the sacred banks of the Gaṅgā in Rishikesh, to the contemplative sanctuary of the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.

Grounded in discipline, simplicity, and lived practice, this immersion offers a clear and embodied entry into Raja Yoga through its most accessible and transformative doorway: breath.

This is not a yoga holiday.

It is an immersion into Yoga as a complete, living tradition.

Akhanda Yoga is a modern, integrated system of practice that expresses the principle of Akhaṇḍa (wholeness) — where posture, breath, meditation, philosophy, ritual, and daily living are unified within one coherent path.

Breath as the Gateway

In classical Yoga, breath is not Prāna itself, but a tangible and responsive medium through which Prāna, attention, and awareness may be consciously cultivated and refined. When guided with skill and discernment, breath becomes a powerful support for steadiness of mind (citta-sthiratā), emotional regulation, and inner clarity — the foundations of Raja Yoga.

This immersion is centered on mastery-held Prānāyāma and kriyā practices, transmitted within the living Himalayan Yogic traditions and taught through the contemporary Akhanda Yoga system. Breath is approached not as a technique for peak experience, but as a disciplined and conscious practice that prepares the practitioner for meditation, inquiry, and integration.

Through breath, participants are invited into a mature and grounded relationship with mind, emotion, and inner experience — cultivating capacity rather than intensity, and clarity rather than control.

Guided by Lineage & Lived Experience

Dr. Yogrishi Vishvketu

Founder of the Akhanda Yoga Institute, Dr. Yogrishi Vishvketu is a Himalayan Yoga Master with over four decades of committed sādhana and a PhD in Yoga Philosophy. His life’s work is devoted to preserving and transmitting Yoga as a living, spiritually rooted path, grounded in Vedic, Tantric, and Himalayan Yoga traditions, including the Ādināth Śiva lineage.

His teachings arise from lived experience within these traditions and are transmitted through discipline, rhythm, collective practice, and direct inquiry, rather than conceptual or purely academic study. As a global teacher, spiritual ambassador, and humanitarian, he has guided tens of thousands of students worldwide while remaining deeply rooted in Himalayan yogic life.

To practice under his guidance is to encounter Yoga as it has traditionally been transmitted — experiential, disciplined, relational, and transformative.

Kal Prakashini Ji

Kal Prakashini Ji brings over four decades of Yogic immersion alongside academic expertise in psychology, neuroscience, and trauma-informed wellbeing, with a particular dedication to women’s health, resilience, and conscious self-inquiry.

Her teaching draws from the original yogic texts and oral traditions, including the Yoga Sūtras, Bhagavad Gītā, and Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā, integrated with contemporary understandings neuroscience, trauma, emotional regulation, and embodied awareness. Known for her depth of transmission in Nāda, Mantra, Prāṇāyāma, Yoga Nidra, and Classical Tantra, she bridges timeless tradition with grounded, modern day relevant application.

Her approach emphasizes self-regulation over catharsis, steadiness over intensity, and maturity over performance — supporting safe, respectful engagement with emotion, ancestral patterning, and inner inquiry within a Yogic framework.

A Contemporary Expression of wholeness.

Daily practices during the immersion may include:

Breath-led classical Āsana, including specially curated sequences using Bhramari – pioneered by Dr Yogrishi Vishvketu
Suitable to all Levels of experience
Prāṇāyāma and Breathwork Kriyās held within disciplined, grounded structure
Meditation and mantra
Ritual, joyful kīrtan, and sacred discipline
Contemplative inquiry into the nature of mind
Teachings drawn from original yogic texts
Selected Vedic fire rituals (Homa / Havan) offered as sacred processes of purification and ancestral acknowledgment
Periods of silence, reflection, and self-study

The retreat unfolds as an immersion rather than a schedule of classes, inviting participants to live the teachings through shared rhythm, simplicity, and presence.

Working with Mind, Emotion & Inner Patterning

Within a container of lineage, discipline, and experienced guidance, participants will explore how breath and awareness influence mental and emotional patterning.

This may include inquiry into experiences such as:

  • Shame and guilt
  • Anger and suppressed or toxic rage
  • Fear, anxiety, and disconnection
  • Inherited or ancestral conditioning

The emphasis is on capacity, discernment, and self-regulation, rather than emotional release or catharsis. Participants are supported to meet inner experience with steadiness and clarity, cultivating a mature relationship with emotion as an integral part of the yogic path.

The Place That Holds the Practice

The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga is more than a retreat venue; it is a living field shaped by decades of dedicated practice, simplicity, and communal discipline. Founded in 1981, the Centre has long been devoted to the preservation and transmission of Yoga as a path of self-realization, lived through daily rhythm, service, and contemplative inquiry.

The Centre carries the enduring presence and legacy of Baba Hari Dās Ji — a Himalayan yogi and exemplar of silent wisdom, whose life and teachings continue to inspire practitioners worldwide. Rooted in the same Himalayan Yogic continuum from which Akhanda Yoga also draws, his influence lives on through the Centre’s commitment to humility, discipline, and practice beyond performance.

Set within serene acres of forest, open sky, and fertile land, the Centre is surrounded by a prāṇically vibrant environment that naturally supports quietude, attentiveness, and inner listening. The land itself becomes part of the practice, inviting participants to slow down, attune, and meet the teachings with presence and respect.

Ashram-Style Accommodation: What to Expect

The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga is a traditional yoga ashram, not a luxury retreat or boutique hotel.

Accommodation is simple, clean, and comfortable, designed to support rest and inner reflection rather than indulgence. Rooms are intentionally minimal, and bathrooms may be shared.

Accommodation options include:

  • Private rooms
  • Shared rooms
  • Seasonal camping (May–September)

This simplicity is a core part of the retreat experience. Many guests report deeper sleep, mental clarity, and emotional grounding when distractions and excess are removed.

If you are looking for hotel-style amenities, luxury finishes, or resort services, this retreat may not be the right fit. If you are seeking peace, quiet, and a supportive yoga environment, you will feel at home here.

Nourishment and Daily Living

Participants are supported by delicious, vegetarian, farm-to-table meals, prepared in a traditional ashram-style that emphasizes simplicity, nourishment, and care. Meals are thoughtfully prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients — many sourced locally — and are offered as part of the daily rhythm of practice.

This style of nourishment supports digestion, clarity of mind, and subtle awareness, allowing participants to engage fully in practice while being gently and generously sustained. Shared meals further reinforce a sense of community, groundedness, and mindful living.
