Yin For The Spine with Lolly
Love your back with this spine-focused yin session. On a physical level, longer-held seated stretches encourage circulation and hydration in the discs. On an emotional level, by moving the spine we can create more free flowing energy through the sushumna nadi ultimately bringing more joy and vitality into our lives.

Breathing with Nature with Carolyn
The joy of movement – Grounding from arrival. Flowing with the sounds of nature in the Pond Dome – flow with some strength poses to feel grounded and strong in our core.

All Levels Hatha with Sahaja
This class opens with an invitation to practice a mantra with hand mudras as a way of centering and drawing attention inward. Asana will include gentle hatha poses with a focus on stabilization to support the low back. Students will be encouraged to relax effort where it is not necessary. Both the mantra and the practice of relaxing effort are excellent practices to bring off the mat and into everyday life.

Self Healing Yoga Journey with Aurelia
Gentle practice, including Himalayan Kriyas from the Vedic and Tantric traditions (breathing exercises, gentle movement, and sounds) for balance and self-healing. This journey is designed to bring a sense of harmony and rejuvenation to your life.

Class Descriptions

General Dosha Balancing with Jyoti
This is an instructional Yoga Asana class where Jyoti will be providing information and tools that can help folks manage their emotional state through strategic movement using the principles of Ayurveda and Yoga.

Cleanse and Reset Yoga Journey with Aurelia
In this cleanse and reset yoga journey, experience the power of active Himalayan Kriyas (breathing techniques, dynamic movements, and sounds) from the Vedic and Tantric traditions. This class is designed to help you release toxins at all levels, optimize energy flow, and achieve complete renewal

Gentle Hatha Yoga with Rajani R
This gentle class will incorporate mindful breathing, gentle movement, and meditation. You can expect a playful, balanced practice that will move your spine in all the ways it can move and incorporate reclined, seated, kneeling, standing, and balancing postures. Yoga is for everyone who has a body, and this class is designed to be accessible and suitable for everyone.

Exploring The Heart Chakra with Lolly
This heart-opening flow is centred around expanding and connecting through the heart space using breath and mindful movement to cultivate self love. The Anahata chakra is associated with gratitude, loving kindness, compassion and self acceptance. Invite more of these qualities into your life, into your heart, by joining me on the mat.

Family Yoga Class with Diana & Melody
Diana would like to co-create a family class with participating families through Nature storytelling, movement with music, dance, games, partner Yoga with your child and group yoga with the SSCY family. Be prepared to dig out your inner child’s imagination, feel the lightness that joy and play bring to the mind and body!

Restorative Yin with Ricardo
Expect a dynamic storytelling session where your mind will help your body hold postures for up to 12 minutes. Be ready to challenge yourself in a different way, and feel renewed once again. This practice has something for all levels of yoga practitioners.

Nyasa with Chetna
Nyasa is a deeply reflective yoga therapy practice that involves a series of self-touches in specific locations on the body. This is often done by a “seer,” or rishi, who chants a specific mantra to “place” it on a body part. It is thought that this ritual imparts the presence of a deity in the body, or makes the body of the individual more divine. In Sanksrit, nyasa means “placing” or “touching.”  Practitioners will be invited to lay hands on themselves or mentally “place” sacred symbols or mantras in specific locations on their body.

Hatha Yoga (All Levels) with Kenzie
We will explore traditional yoga poses and practices through a contemporary, functional and playful lens while cultivating a deepening sense of present moment awareness and embodiment. We will use gravity, space and movement to anchor ourselves in the unfolding present, noticing where we need to gather stability and where we need to soften and allow.

Somatic / Mindful Movement with Lolly
A flow class accessible for Every Body. This session is trauma informed and offers a journey on and off the mat of healing through movement and breath. Focusing on energy centres, this embodied flow fuses modern and traditional practices with intelligent sequencing, to allow students to focus on self-enquiry rather than performance. Follow your sense of curiosity and join me as we invite in more space to breathe and move.

Class Descriptions

Finesse in Movement with Lyndsay (CP)
Finesse in movement rather than bulk force. Cultivating kindness in the mind/body/breath complex – understanding that diverse movements, exertions and focuses can lead us to our personal “science lab” – play in the kind side of pain (no pain). When we can breathe easily during movements we will be working in a sweet mind and body space.

Yoga Core with Kenzie
Within the framework of an Asana practice, we will cultivate a visceral and embodied experience of our functional core, building the capacity to add complexity and dynamic ease to initially simple, then increasingly more challenging poses and movements. Emphasis will be placed on therapeutic movements that help undo the impact Western cultural practices have on core stability, including extended sitting, cell phone use and modern footwear.

Deep Hips & Shoulders with Jyoti
This will be on all levels class. Ease into the retreat by opening up the hips and shoulders, tight from our everyday habits of sitting at a desk and using our computers/phones. We will start with light stretches and move deeper into these areas as the class progresses.

Vinyasa Flow – Level 2 with Yogita
This class uses sun salutation and vinyasa as the thread to build into dynamic and challenging poses. Taught with clear verbal cues, you may flow through standing and arm balance, binds or inversions, as your practice allows on the day. Yogita will adapt the class to the skill level of those attending, but some prior experience is recommended. There will be options to explore within the practice.

Gentle Flow & Restorative Rest with Gita
This therapeutic yoga class will use mindful breathing, gentle movement, and supported restorative yoga poses to help you unwind, release tension, and rejuvenate. Props will be used to help support and cradle the body during the restorative poses. This practice will be calming and cooling and is suitable for everyone.

Forgiveness Series with Chetna / Bhavani S
Two-part, all-levels class of Kshama Prarthana Pranam (Forgiveness Asana Series)and Yoga Nidra(Yogic Sleep). Kshama Prarthana Pranam is a gentle devotional flow of asanas chosen by Babaji that embodies the principles of vulnerability, humility, and self-reflection. The second half of the class is dedicated to the practice of Yoga Nidra, a fully guided meditation in the posture of savasana. This practice can help manage immune function, blood pressure, and cortisol levels. It is effective in awakening higher awareness, reducing anxiety, and inducing restful sleep.

Vinyasa Flow with Lolly
These flow classes are suitable for Every Body, are trauma-informed and offer a journey on and off the mat of healing through movement and breath, tuning into our unique landscape of our bodies. The flow fuses modern and traditional practices with intelligent sequencing to allow students to focus on self-enquiry rather than performance. A mindful embodied flow where we place gentle focus on energy centers and on different areas of the body, inviting in more space, openness and a sense of curiosity.

Yoga Nidra with Kenzie
The practice of ‘Yogic Sleep’ is both entirely accessible and profoundly nourishing, requiring us to simply lie down and listen. We will be gently invited to quiet the mind by calming the breath, while cultivating a felt sense of deep presence within our physical and energetic being. By anchoring ourselves in the present moment, we will create room to expand within and without, releasing layers of holding while increasing our capacity for creativity, clarity and peace.

Forest Bathing with Tahia
Staying connected to the natural world is essential to our well-being and resilience. This forest therapy walk will consist of a series of guided invitations to enhance your sensory connection to the natural world. The experience will offer opportunities to connect to yourself, others, and the forest around you. Come dressed in comfortable clothing, bring some water to drink, and be open to slow down as you bathe in the air of the forest and immerse your senses in the qualities of the more-than-human world around you.

Carolyn
Continuing to delve into the writings and teachings of Baba Hari Dass is the medicine of daily living. Decades of running a business, mountain pursuits including rock climbing, international alpine altitude missions, water adventures, and 20 years of parenting have continued to remind me that going to the mat, sitting in stillness, walking in nature, coupled with the teachings and visits to our beloved centre, the satsang, and the lifestyle of a yogi, is a never-ending path of self-forgiveness, gentle stillness, and listening to what our bodies and minds need in all the shifting phases of daily living. Playful awareness of movement.

Lyndsay Savage - Yoga InstructorChandra Prabha (CP)
I have loved practicing Yoga from a young age and cultivated a curiosity for the practice early on. One thing I am passionate about with Yoga is sharing the practice in diverse ways! Over time, the constant about Yoga has been that to work diversely is to connect with the distinct parts that make up the whole. I love teaching Yoga… plain and simple, and I delight in what I learn in the process. Baba Hari Dass reminded us to ”Teach to Learn”, and this is the essence and ground for me. Some of the distinct ways I am drawn to teach include playing with Gross to Subtle body connections. Practicing Classical Vijnana Yoga, and teaching from the Somatic Yoga principles, I nourish my practice and teaching in a place of Grace. An aspect of this is about concentration, and intention, and also about working from a place of least effort and fine-tuning movement to its granular aspect. Practicing from Inside Out.

RicardoRicardo
Born and raised in Brazil, Ricardo first encountered Bikram Yoga while living in the USA in the 1990s and immediately felt the benefits that the asana sequences had to offer. Years later while on vacation in Canada, he came across Yin Yoga training with Bernie Clark. Instantly he experienced the deep opening and release of tension found in the connective tissue from the culmination of many years of playing soccer, classical guitar and working on the computer. Ricardo spent the next years teaching Yin yoga in Paris and studying non-duality meditation with Rupert Spira. He then discovered Baba Ji’s centres and teachings and travelled to all 3 places which strengthened his yoga practice. The combination between Yin yoga and meditation complements one of the most challenging aspects of asana: holding postures and slowly but progressively unlocking the body and mind along the way.

Sahaja
Sahajā Redford completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2006 at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, following the teachings of Baba Hari Dass. Serving as a Karma Yogi in the summers of 2014, 2017, and 2019, Sahajā volunteered at the Salt Spring Centre, supporting summer programming and engaging in āsana, prānāyāma, meditation, and philosophy classes, as well as devotional practices such as āratī and kīrtan. She is thrilled to have returned to the land for this 2024 season and to have this opportunity to offer āsana classes to our Salt Spring Island community.

Tahia

Over the past 15 years, Tahia has supported global to local research to improve human well-being and address climate change adaptation through nature-based solutions. Since 2017, Tahia is also teaching holistic yoga and became a student of the many teachings shared by Baba Hari Dass. She visited the Sri Ram Ashram-Orphanage and the unforgettable experiences she lived there with her beloved teacher, Anuradha, deeply influenced her journey. In 2020, Tahia also certified as a forest therapy/bathing guide, and she is now integrating these practices into alternative ways for people to reconnect with the more-than-human world for healing.
