Clare Cullen has been engaged with the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga (SSCY) and Dharma Sara Satsang Society (DSSS) since 2006 when she and her family moved to Salt Spring Island from Vancouver. First introduced to the Centre as a parent at the Salt Spring Centre School, Clare has been involved in various aspects of the SSCY ever since, holding volunteer, board and staff positions at both the school and the Centre over the years. She has attended many Annual Retreats, asana classes, and community events, offering karma yogi service for retreats and, most importantly, developing deep and lasting friendships with fellow members of the satsang.
In her professional life, Clare has worked with non-profit organizations for almost 20 years, first as a community banker with Vancity and more recently as a program manager at Arts Umbrella on Granville Island. Since 2015, she has been the Operations Director at the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm, holding a key leadership role in the UBC Farm’s daily operations, business development, and financial and human resources management. Clare holds an undergrad degree in Communication from Queens University and an M.Ed in Art and Environment from Simon Fraser University.
Clare grew up in Toronto and moved to the West Coast in 1995. She is married to Michael and they have two grown children, Zoe and Aaron, both of whom attended the Centre School. They also have multiple dogs and cats in their lives. She and her family have a home on Salt Spring so split their time between the Island and Vancouver.
Clare hopes that her experience in non-profit programming and management plus her knowledge of and love for the SSCY will allow her to serve the DSSS well.
